Are you looking for a healthy snack to send to school with your kids?
Something that’s not packed with refined sugars and ingredients you can’t pronounce. How about trying my homemade fruit leather recipe!? Ok, ok I know what you are thinking. so before you get worried. I am here to tell you it is way easier thank you think. So just think of this as a cheater recipe.
Step 1 Be Tired of Giving you Kids Junk Food
I love food, and I want my kids to love food too. But what I don’t want is for them to get sucked into the world of sugary junk food that surrounds us today.
So I wanted to find ways to create healthy foods for my kids. If you are like me, then please move on to step two.
Step 2 Gather Your Ingredients
Apples are a great source of dietary fiber, aid in bone protection, and diabetes management. All things that are great for your child’s health. So you will need some unsweetened applesauce for your fruit leather. You can either make the applesauce yourself or do as I did; get the large container of unsweetened at the grocery store.
2) Carrot Juice:
Carrots are such a wonderful source of antioxidants to fight against free radicals, cell damage, and inflammation. Plus carrot juice is naturally sweet. Mixed with the applesauce, your kids will never know that there is no sugar in it! Now you can juice the carrots yourself if you are feeling feisty, or you can take the easy route and buy all natural 100% carrot juice.
Who doesn’t love cinnamon? Especially with your applesauce!? I know I do, and your kids will love it in their fruit leather too. Cinnamon helps naturally lower your blood sugar levels, helps fight bacterial and fungal infections, helps with inflammation, along with so many other benefits.
Step 3 Mix It All Together
Just like it says.
Step 4 Get Your Dehydrator
Next you will need to dehydrate the mixed fruits. You can use either a dehydrator, which is my preferred method. Or you can spread it out on a cookie sheet covered with parchment paper. Keep in mind with either method it will have to dry for approximately 14 hours, so if you are using the oven it will be running for a very long time. This is why I prefer the dehydrator. You set the temperature and the time, turn it on and forget it!
